CAREGIVER: HOME CHILD CARE PROVIDER
and HOME SUPPORT WORKER
What are the open Caregiver programs for Canada?
Internationally trained or experienced caregivers who do not have any Canadian experience may qualify to be a Caregiver under the new Home Child Care Provider (children) and Home Support Worker (elderly) Pilot Programs.
Under these 2 programs, applicants apply for permanent residence at the same time as applying for a work permit. While applicants must be approved for both temporary entry as a worker and permanent entry as an immigrant, they will only be issued a work permit.
After gaining 1 year work experience in Canada, the applicants will then be re-assessed for permanent entry to ensure they continue to be eligible for permanent residency.
NOTE: A job offer is a required before the applicant can submit his/her application.
What are the requirements for the Caregiver Program?
The requirements for Canada’s Home Child Care Provider and Home Support Worker Pilot Programs for caregivers include a valid job offer from a Canadian employer, proof of ability to do the job, English or French proficiency (CLB/NLCL 5), and minimum 1-year post-secondary education credential.
Can you bring your family members with you under the Caregiver program?
Yes, your family members (spouse/partner and dependent children) are also eligible to come with you to Canada. If they want to work or study while in Canada, they must apply for work or study permits. These can be submitted together with your own application.
How long is the processing time and what are the application fees?
Processing times vary depending on how you submit your application (online or paper) and how long the queue is. There are currently no available estimated processing times for the Caregiver Programs, as they are still very new.
Application fees for permanent residence are $550 per adult and $150 per dependent child. The right of permanent residence fee is $550 per adult; dependent children are exempt.
Each work permit application fee is $255. Each study permit application fee is $150. Biometrics may be required.
What are the key considerations in submitting an application?
The requirements might look simple on paper, but often applications are rejected because the documents submitted were inaccurate, incomplete, or non-compliant. Here are some key considerations when applying for an open work permit and permanent residency under the Caregiver program in Canada:
- How do you determine if your job offer is valid?
- How do you ensure you meet the requirements for both work permit and permanent residence?
- How do you optimize your application for a higher chance of approval?
