What is the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program?
The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP or Albera PNP) is a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) for Canadian immigration by the province of Alberta. Applicants applt directly to Alberta, and Alberta nominates accepted individuals to Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for immigration.
To qualify for any Provincial Nominee Program, you must have the skills, education, work experience, and funds needed to settle in the province or territory of your application.
Alberta currently has 3 immigration streams: (a) Express Entry, (b) Opportunity Stream, and (c) Self-Employed Farmer.
Who can apply for the Alberta Express Entry Stream?
You may qualify for the Alberta PNP Express Entry Stream if you:
- meet minimum requirements for the Federal Skilled Worker, Federal Skilled Trades, or Canadian Experience Class program
- can prove strong ties to Alberta (e.g., relatives in Alberta, studied or worked in Alberta)
- meet minimum language and education requirements for your occupation
- have legal status in Canada
Who can apply for the Alberta Opportunity Stream?
You may qualify for the Alberta Opportunity Stream if you:
- have a valid job offer in an eligible occupation
- are currently working in the same occupation which relates to your previous work experience
- meet minimum work experience requirements, which is at least 6 months to 2 years, depending on how you gained your work experience
- graduated from an approved program, if you are a student in Alberta
- meet minimum language and education requirements for your occupation
- have legal status in Canada, with a valid work permit
Who can apply for the Self-Employed Farmer Stream?
You may qualify for the Alberta Self-Employed Farmer Stream if you:
- invest at least $500,000
- have a net worth of $500,000
- have education, training, and work experience in farming
- meet minimum language, education, and income requirements
- can provide proof that a Canadian financial institution will finance the project
Can family members accompany the principal applicant?
Yes, you can bring family members that you declared in your Alberta PNP application. These include:
- your spouse or common-law partner
- your dependent child (<22 years old)
- your spouse or common-law partner’s dependent child
- a dependent child of a dependent child
How long is the processing time and what are the processing fees?
The processing time for applications under the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) varies based on the volume of applications and the information being processed and verified. It may take between 6-12 months.
There is no processing fee for the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program.
