Work in Canada as a Digital Nomad

Digital nomads don’t need a work permit to work in Canada.

WHO IS A DIGITAL NOMAD?

  • A digital nomad is a person who can perform their job remotely from anywhere in the world.
  • A digital nomad only needs visitor status to relocate to Canada for up to six months at a time while they perform their job remotely for a foreign employer.
  • Digital nomads can be self-employed individuals too.

WHAT KIND OF JOBS DO DIGITAL NOMADS DO?

A high-skilled occupation is recommended. Some examples are:

  • Marketing: Social Media Manager, Digital Marketing
  • Creatives: Graphic Designer, Content Creator, Copywriting, Video Editing, Photographer, Writer, Blogger, Designer, Freelance News Correspondence
  • IT: Web Developer, App Developer, Programmer, User Experience Design, 3D Modeling
  • Finance: Crypto Trader,
  • Specialists: Data Analyst, SEO Specialist, Consultant, Business Intelligence
  • Education: Online Teacher or Tutor, Translator
  • Administration: Project Manager, Administration Manager

To qualify for Canada, you must be working 100% remotely for your employer or you are self-employed on a contract basis for more than one employer. Your employer must NOT be a Canadian employer.

WHY SHOULD DIGITAL NOMADS COME TO CANADA?

  • As one of the pillars of the Tech Talent Strategy announced last June 2023, the goal of this initiative is to encourage interaction between high-skilled digital nomads and Canadian employers who might wish to offer employment.
  • For this reason, a digital nomad in Canada may apply for a work permit if they find a Canadian employer.
  • When the digital nomad applies for or is granted a work permit, his family may join him in Canada. His spouse may work and his minor children may study for free.
