REQUIREMENTS TO SPONSOR FAMILY MEMBERS
You can sponsor your family if you are:
- at least 18 years old
- a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
- not receiving social assistance that is not related to disability
- can provide for the basic needs of the family members you are sponsoring
You may not be able to sponsor your family if you:
- are in default of an immigration loan, performance bond, or family support payments
- receive social assistance for a reason other than a disability
- are going through bankruptcy
- are under a removal order
- have been convicted of a crime
You may contact us for assistance if any of the above apply to you.
You definitely cannot sponsor your family if you:
- are in a penitentiary, jail, reformatory or prison
- were sponsored by a spouse or partner and you became a permanent resident less than 5 years ago
- sponsored a previous spouse or partner who became a permanent resident less than 3 years ago
- have already applied to sponsor your current spouse, partner or child and a decision on your application hasn’t been made yet
