EXPRESS ENTRY: CANADIAN EXPERIENCE CLASS PROGRAM
What is the Canadian Experience Class Program?
The Canadian Experience Class is an immigration pathway to Canada for skilled workers who have Canadian work experience and want to become permanent residents. Work experience may be gained under a post-graduation work permit or a regular work permit.
Who can qualify under the Canadian Experience Class Program?
You can qualify under the Canadian Experience Class if you meet the following requirements:
- Work experience – valid work experience of at least 1 year in the last 3 years in a skilled profession
- Language (English or French) – minimum language scores depend on your profession and work experience: at least CLB 5 in skilled trades, OR at least CLB 7 in any profession that has a minimum of college/skills training
- Education – not required, but can boost your eligibility
Proof of funds is NOT required under this program.
Can you still apply for the Canadian Experience Class if you have left Canada?
Yes, you can still apply so long as you meet all the requirements. Take note your Canadian work experience must have been within the last 3 years before you receive the Invitation to Apply under the Express Entry System.
Can family members accompany the principal applicant?
Yes, you can bring family members that you declared in your application. These include:
- your spouse or common-law partner
- your dependent child (<22 years old)
- your spouse or common-law partner’s dependent child
- a dependent child of a dependent child
How long is the processing time and what are the processing fees?
Assuming your application is complete and accurate, Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) can process applications within 6 months.
The processing fee and right of permanent resident fee is $1,325 per adult and $225 per dependent child.
What are the key considerations in submitting an application?
The requirements might look simple on paper, but often applications are rejected because the documents submitted were inaccurate, incomplete, or non-compliant. Here are some key considerations when applying for the Canadian Experience Class program:
- How do you assess if you have qualified Canadian work experience?
- Do you need to add documents unique to your case?
- What supplementary information can you add in order to have a stronger application?
