Do You Need to Resubmit Your Visitor Visa Application?

Visitor visa applications submitted before September 7, 2021 may need to be resubmitted.

On September 7, 2021, Canada re-opened its borders to non-essential visitors from around the world. If you submitted a visitor visa application before September 7, 2021, what does this mean for you?

If you indicated in your application that you qualify for a COVID-19 exemption:
You don’t need to submit a new visitor visa application. Your current visitor visa application will continue to be processed, whether you applied online or on paper.

However, if your situation has changed since you submitted your visitor visa application, you may need to submit a new online application if:

• • your situation has changed  (e.g., married, divorced, birth of child, etc), AND
  • you’re traveling for one of the following reasons:
    • to be reunited with an immediate family member who is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
    • to be reunited with an immediate family member who is a foreign national in Canada temporarily
    • to visit for business
    • to attend to a loved one’s final moments, an end-of-life ceremony or a funeral
    • to care for a critically ill person
    • to join a vessel as a marine crew member
    • to assume a diplomatic posting or accompany a diplomat as an immediate family member
    • to handle the affairs of a victim of Ukraine International Airlines Flight PS572

When you submit a new visitor visa application, your previous application will automatically be withdrawn without notice. There is no guarantee of a refund.

If you don’t intend to travel to Canada right now:
Your visitor visa application submitted prior to September 7, 2021 will remain in queue for processing. You don’t need to submit a new visitor visa application and your pending application will not be expedited.

If you no longer want to travel to Canada
You can choose to withdraw your visitor visa application. There is no guarantee that you will get a refund.
