Come to Canada as a Tourist, Stay as a Worker

For a limited time only

Come to Canada as a visitor, find an employer, apply for a work permit, and stay & work in Canada. In a nutshell, this is the temporary public policy brough about by the COVID-19 pandemic. This public policy will end on February 28, 2023.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, all work permit applications must be submitted outside of Canada. But under this public policy, visitors can come to Canada, become a worker, and stay for the duration of their employment contracts. If they qualify for permanent residency during this time, they can apply for immigration from within Canada.

In addition, if you are already in Canada and you had a work permit that was valid in the last 12 months before you applied for a new work permit under this public policy, you may be able to avail of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s (IRCC) “interim authorization to work.” This authorization allows you to start working for your employer after you submit your application, even though the application has not been approved yet.
