What is the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program?
The Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) is a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) for Canadian immigration by the province of PEI. Applicants apply directly to PEI, and PEI nominates accepted individuals to Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for immigration.
To qualify for any Provincial Nominee Program, you must have the skills, education, work experience, and funds needed to settle in the province or territory of your application.
PEI currently has 3 immigration streams: (a) Express Entry, (b) Labour Impact Category, (c) Business Impact Category streams. PEI is also a participating province of the Atlantic Immigration Program.
Who can apply for the PEI Express Entry Program?
You may qualify for the PEI Express Entry Program if you:
- have an Express Entry profile
- meet the minimum criteria for an Express Entry Program (Federal Skilled Worker, Federal Skilled Trades, or Canadian Experience Class)
- have 4 months’ experience with your employer, and 4 months left before the expiration of your work permit (if you are already working in PEI on a post-graduation work permit)
Who can apply for the PEI Labour Impact Category – Skilled Worker Program?
You may qualify for the PEI Labour Impact Category – Skilled Worker Program if you:
- have a valid job offer
- have a 2-year post-secondary degree/diploma
- have 2 years’ work experience in the last 5 years
- meet minimum language proficiency requirements (CLB 4 or equivalent)
- have a valid work permit (if you are currently working in PEI)
Who can apply for the PEI Labour Impact Category – Critical Worker Program?
You may qualify for the PEI Labour Impact Category – Critical Worker Program if you:
- have a valid job offer in trucking, customer service, labourers, food and beverage service, or housekeeping
- have worked 6 months for the same employer on a valid work permit
- have 2 years’ work experience or relevant education in the last 5 years
- have a high school diploma
- meet minimum language proficiency requirements (CLB 4)
Who can apply for the PEI Labour Impact Category – International Graduate Program?
You may qualify for the PEI Labour Impact Category – International Graduate Program if you:
- have a valid job offer
- have worked 6 months for the same employer on a valid post-graduation work permit, in a role related to your studies
- graduated from a 2-year full-time PEI degree/diploma
- adequate language proficiency to perform the job offered
Who can apply for the PEI Business Impact Category Programs?
The PEI PNP Business Impact Category has 3 programs – 100% Business Ownership, Partial Business Ownership, and Work Permit streams.
You may qualify for the 100% Ownership or Partial Ownership stream if you:
- purchase or start a new business in PEI
- sign an escrow agreement and deposit $200,000 to be refunded over a period of time (usually 2 years)
You may qualify for the Work Permit stream if you:
- purchase or start a new business in PEI
- sign a performance agreement
- operate the business during the 12 months before receiving nomination
In addition to the above, you must meet the following requirements for any of these 3 streams:
- net worth of $600,000
- minimum investment of $150,000
- high school diploma
- 21-59 years of age
- have relevant experience
- meet English proficiency requirements (CLB 4)
Can family members accompany the principal applicant?
Yes, you can bring family members that you declared in your Nova Scotia PNP (NS PNP) application. These include:
- your spouse or common-law partner
- your dependent child (<22 years old)
- your spouse or common-law partner’s dependent child
- a dependent child of a dependent child
How long is the processing time and what are the processing fees?
The processing time for applications under the PEI Provincial Nominee Program varies based on the volume of applications and the information being processed and verified.
The processing fee for the PEI Provincial Nominee Program starts at $300.
